Atlanta's new money waste system

So, Atlanta is set to begin contruction on a new streetcar system that will basically go everywhere that MARTA goes already. This new transportation system will take mainly tourist to the main attractions throughout the city which are the district that includes the Georgia Aquarium, the World of Coca-Cola, Centennial Olympic Park and the future Center for Civil and Human Rights, and the King Center. The 2.6 route will beginning on the west end of the loop at Centennial Olympic Park, the modern, electric-powered streetcar will run along Luckie Street past the Tabernacle and Woodruff Park, then along Edgewood Avenue. It will then turn left onto Jackson Street, left on historic Auburn Avenue, and head back west.

Naturally, I had to ask why not put this $72 million into MARTA versus to this purely cosmetic streetcar venture? Especially, when MARTA has been begging for monies for the past few years. The Metro Atlanta citizens that are being hit very hard by MARTA's budget cuts and fare increases are not being considered in this new venture that the city has taken. Oh, by the way, did I mention that this new streetcar system will be run by MARTA itself. The single ride fare for the streetcar will be $3 which is compatible with the MARTA Breezecard.

The justification that the City of Atlanta uses for putting federal funds into a meaningless venture is the potential for new jobs and community leaders say the line could help reconnect downtown and Sweet Auburn, a link that was severed when the interstate was constructed. While MARTA has been crying financial distress and putting the burden on its patrons, is the streetcar a smart decision?

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert: the Voices of Reason and Truthiness

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert: the Voices of Reason and Truthiness

These two ushered in a whole new genre of media. Which, in my eyes, are more respectible that that of other "formal" media outlets. The brash honesty of Stewart and Colbert brings a fresh light to the unaccountable finger pointing posed by the major media outlets.

On a side note - Can we get a female version of Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart?

Are we playing the victim or being targeted?

A recent article on CNN money indicates that Black America is being hit the hardest by the fallen housing market. Home ownership among Black Americans have plummeted  over 6 percent since the impact of the recession. But, that news was not as shocking to me as the comments made by readers clearly of other races. Its is often stated that blacks play the race card too often and cry "victim" rather than owning up to their bad decisions. Yet, these critics have not had first hand experience of what it means to be black, they have not had the pleasure of having a loan denied based on the color of the skin, they have not been denied jobs based on assumptuous individuals that sterotype blacks based on their ethnicity.

"I've got an idea - PAY YOUR BILLS! I lived with a black woman once, and she gave me the second half of the old joke: "Once you go white, yo credit gets right." If you are not responsible financially, don't expect the banks to operate an extension of welfare."

"I'm offended by the whole black in America section CNN has going. Isn't that racists to begin with. Let's re-title. White in America. Oh NO! Can't have that. That's racists. Equality. That's what it's all about. Can't help that blacks over extend themselves more than others. Bling Bling!"

In a perfect world we would all like to believe that racism does't exist and integration change the world. but, unfortunately, the same system that oppressed the African American Diaspora is still alive and well today. Why would I want to cry "racist injustice" unnecessarily. Would you blame a rape victim for being assaulted and violated, I hope not. So, why blame Blacks for being "picked on" by the dinosaurs that run this country. I wish race was not a factor, but the reality is that race effects several outcomes.
